The English premier league big name, Manchester United lost 2-1 to Young Boys, the Swiss giant in the first match of their UCL campaign this season

The hopes of many fans for a victory for the reds were dashed as everyone expected a victory, especially because of the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo who has rejuvenated the club.

The result of their game goes a long way to showing that sometimes, wrong decisions can be very costly, and that was exactly what played out. There were some key things that put Manchester United on the losing side, and here they are:

WRONG LINE UP AND FORMATION

Many would agree with me that the shambolic performance of the reds was possibly because of a wrong line up. The Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjae opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation with the following players manning the positions; Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Rinaldo, Paul Pogba, David de Gea, Harry Maguire,Victor Lindewlof, Fred, Sancho and Wan-Bissaka. One would agree that the game got messed up from here because 4-3-3-2 could have been a better choice which would provide more offensive play that could result in more gaols

  WRONG SUBSTITUTION

Ole Gunnar made some substitutions that affected the game. There was a red card against the reds in the 37th minute of the first half, Wan- Bissaka was sent off, and to cushion the effect of the pressure in the second half of the game, he substituted Cristiano Ronaldo for Jesse Lingard, who mistakenly gifted the Swiss boys the winning goal, when everyone had hoped for a draw at the least.

He  tried to defend his decision by saying the following "The game had gone 70-odd minutes, they had been running a lot on Saturday and today. We wanted Nemanja Matic's experience to keep hold of the ball and Jesse Lingard's legs."

As the fast half was winding down, Man U led by 1-0, a goal scored by the legend himself, Ronaldo, but the pressure from the red card shown to Wan-Bissika was mounting and dangerous bombardment from the wings    forced Ole Gunnar to bring in Raphael Varane

They kept asking questions on the Manchester United defense, and succeeded in the 66th minute, but Ole Gunnar's response to manage the worsening situation was to replace Ronaldo.

That right there was the beginning of the end!!.

     WRONG STRATEGY

The awful performance from Ole Gunnar and his boys can also be traced to his strategy, he rested some key players for their next premier league match against West Ham. This affected his choice of players and their positions. This probably explains why he played Paul Pogba and Sancho as wingers which contributed to a poor  tactical flow and an ultimate loss
